County of Monroe
Monroe County is a county in the Finger Lakes region of the State of New York that contains the city of Rochester and surrounding areas. Monroe County has always had an abundance of water resources. In addition to many creeks and ponds, Lake Ontario lies directly to the north of the county and Irondequoit Bay is located several miles to the east of the Genesee River, which splits the county. These resources contributed significantly to the initial settlement and continual development of Monroe County by providing water, power, transportation, and drinking water. The county has numerous initiatives to improve and maintain water quality.
